Enjoy Your Time in College While Living in Your Own Apartment

As a student, you want to live in a home that is comfortable while you’re in college. This could be in a dorm room, or it could be in an apartment that isn’t on the college campus. If you choose to live in an apartment, there are some tips to keep in mind so that you have the best experience possible.

What to Take

If you’re going to have roommates, then consult with them before moving so that you know what each person will take. Although you’re likely going to take your own bed and other personal items, you can share things that you’ll use in the kitchen and the living room.

Payments

When you live in one of the apartments near WWU, you need to make sure your rent payments are made on time. If you share the apartment with someone else, then divide the rent between all of you so that everyone pays their fair share. You can also divide the utilities, such as the electric and cable bills. If you pay on time, then you’ll usually have a better chance of renewing your lease or seeing an increase in your credit score.

Decorations

It’s usually alright to decorate when you’re living in apartments near WWU, but you need to ask the property manager if there are limitations on what you can hang on the walls or if there’s anything that you shouldn’t use when decorating. Try to use strips that can be peeled off the walls for hanging pictures and other items so that you don’t use tacks or nails.
